Capitalism Doing Good?

Even though I'm usually kind of annoyed by the recent fashion craze of "green" and "peace," (for by buying those things you're really defying the true meaning of the movements) there is some actual power of those purchases that seem to be unavoidable. Here are some of my favorites right now of doing good with our Western materialistic habits.

1. Converse (RED) Line where 10% of the net price goes to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Everyone loves the classic Chucks, and they're all the more rad by supporting world health issues. http://www.converse.com
2. Peace Coffee is a great company that promotes fair trade coffee. Coffee is one of the most easy things to buy fair trade. I visited a tea farm in Uganda this summer where the workers practically live in enslavement to the owners of the plantations - their own children often becoming stuck in the cycle as well. http://www.peacecoffee.com/

3. Sigg's "Drop of Hope" water bottle that is in connection to the Jane Goodall Institute's work for providing clean drinking water to children in Africa. $5 from every purchase go towards the JGI. http://mysigg.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=758

Beauty All Around

Today was a gorgeous fall day, even the clouds made it all the more picturesque. These are pictures of the two swans that live at my university. Their names are Gwenevier and Lancelot and Lake Lavern is their home. Every day when I walk by the lake I'm inspired by their graceful beauty. Something about swans... especially these two with their mythic love is... lovely. And that's a picture of me cruising town with my sweet heels on, I felt very European, for all the girls I saw in European cities cruise around on their bikes and Vespas wearing sky-high heels and beautiful dresses. Buuuut it was a little difficult walking around the lake with my heels sinking into the mud, but the swans appreciated my attempt at gracefulness ;)

first blog... EVER

Tonight while reading Vogue between bartending at work I had the epiphany of starting my own blog. I was reading about the new influence of street style and the related blogs on fashion, and I was like I could do that, so here I am. I hope to include all the things I love on this blog; global issues, fashion, music, photography, and just plain journaling - for I think waaaaaay too much all the time and typing really is much faster than writing by hand.
That's a photo I took at a park the other day, it's a crazy tower you can climb up and see for miles... it would be cooler but now there's so much development around it's mostly a golf course and miles of suburbia box-houses.
